Northern India

India is a very big country, it would take a very long time to visit as a whole. Its magnitude and the slow transportation by land makes it a country worth divided in zones. Here I will show you the Places you cannot miss in the north of India, mainly the states of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

1. Agra:

It’s probably the most famous place in India, the Taj Mahal. Maybe you didn’t know that it was located in Agra but now that you do, you better write down Agra on your list, or else, you will be missing one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

2. Jaipur:

Visit the Hawa Mahal, this monumental structure full of windows. Also mention its many forts and palaces like the Havelis or the Amber Palace. Jaipur definitely needs to be on your list.

3. Jodhpur:

Known for his blue houses all over the city. It has to be a must-stop on your trip in India, not only for the blue houses, but for its numerous temples within the city. Places like Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi and Mehrangarh Fort are incredible for pictures!

4. New Delhi:

The capital of India. Big and bustling, crowded everywhere. Still, a cultural paradise with many places to visit. Don’t forget to check places like Humayun’s Tomb (picture bellow), Jama Masjid and the Red Fort.

5. Varanasi:

One of the 7 oldest cities in India, Varanasi will make you feel the real Hindu culture. Visit the Dashashwamedh Ghat to see the Ganga Aarti (ritual of offering prayer to the Ganges river). Definitely, one of a kind city that should be on your list.

6. Udaipur:

Udaipur is the southernmost city of this list, although you can reach it easily from Jodhpur. lakes, palaces, forts, temples, gardens, and romantic backdrops. It was the setting of many movies, including the 13th James Bond film, Octopussy. Also you had two amazing side trips, Ranakpur Temple and Tiger Lake.

7. Jaisalmer:

Jaisalmer is sometimes skipped for many people, but trust me, it’s worth visiting. You can visit the majestic Jaisalmer Fort or wander around the city through streets with a wonderful architecture. Besides, there are many tours taking you for an overnight stay in the middle of the desert. It will be one of the most beautiful skies you will ever seen, take a look at my post DESERT

8. Pushkar:

Between Jodhpur and Jaipur you can find this small city called Pushkar. As you can see on the picture, nearly the whole city is surrounding the Pushkar Lake, a sacred lake where you will see pilgrims taking their sacred baths. Also worth mention the Savitri Mata Temple, situated on a rather tough hill but that it will grant you with these amazing view.
